by Tom on September 17, 2010

With cleansing becoming more and more popular people are increasingly looking at how they can detox their body and remove toxins and impurities.  Although there are hundreds of different supplements, pills and programs on the market it is possible to do a detox from the comfort of your own home, using products you probably already have in your kitchen cupboard.

Why do you want to do a detox?

Think about why you are doing this cleansing diet in the first place and what results you would like to achieve as these will affect the type of detox cleanse you do:

  • Do you want to lose weight?
  • Do you have digestion problems that you want to sort out
  • Do you suffer from a lack of energy and feel sluggish
  • Do you have poor skin

You many identify one of these factors or a number of them.

Also think about what results you want to achieve, for example if you want to lose 20kg it would not be realistic to do this in 7 days, even if there are supplements that claim it is possible. Be realistic and create a goal.

Putting together your detox cleansing program

The first decision to make is to buy an off the shelf product or put your own cleansing program together. There are clear advantages and disadvantages to both.

DIY cleansing

By making a few simple lifestyle changes and using at home ingredients you can put together a good cleansing program which is much cheaper than the off the shelf products. It will be a bit more time consuming to put together and the results will depend on how well you develop your program

Buying a cleansing program

If you want to save time and ensure results, this could be a good option. Look for a supplement that is natural and safe. These are two very important points. Some of the supplements offer free trials, these should be avoided. Go for reputation and quality rather than glossy marketing materials or the cheapest product.

Remember a detox shouldn’t be about a ‘quick fix’ it should be viewed as a way to return the bodies natural balance and support overall health. Many people follow a detox program to get them started and then make simple changes to their diet and lifestyle to ensure their maintain results and keep their body clean and healthy.
